Patty Wisian-Neilson
Professor of Chemistry, Southern Methodist University
Patty received her B.S. degree in Chemistry from Texas Lutheran College and her Ph. D. degree in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin under the direction of Alan Cowley. She did post-doctoral research at Duke University for two years and for several months at UT Arlington. She then moved to TCU where she was a research scientist and instructor. In 1984 she received an NSF Visiting Professorship for Women in Science and Engineering which took her to Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a year. That same year she joined the faculty at Southern Methodist University where she has taught general, polymer, and inorganic chemistry. Her research involves the synthesis, characterization and applications of the class of inorganic polymers known as poly(phosphazenes) and their cyclic analogs. |
