Jamie N. Jones

RTI International is a leading nonprofit research institute based in North Carolina. Dr. Jones supports companies, governments, and non-governmental organizations in their quest to introduce new project to the market. Sitting at the nexus of technology, customers, and markets, Dr. Jones has deep expertise connecting user-insights to technology commercialization pathways and business model development. Currently Dr. Jones is involved in the assessment of innovation ecosystems, codifying the establishment of academic-industry partnerships to drive technology translation, and the design of business models for transitioning technology in emerging market contexts.
Prior to joining RTI, Dr. Jones was a Clinical Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, she worked with startups, nonprofits and companies to build and finance ventures that create both financial and social returns. Dr. Jones has experience using Lean Startup practices to optimize business models. She has worked in India, East and West Africa and Latin America on agriculture-, education-, health-, and water-focused ventures. Dr. Jones co-founded Impact Engine, a startup accelerator based in Chicago. Before Kellogg, Dr. Jones worked with Milliken & Co. on various polymer science, surface chemistry and medical device projects. She was the research team lead for the firm’s work in medical products.
Jamie received her PhD in the Alan H. Cowley group in 2004. She credits her time in the Cowley lab with catalyzing her passion for the impact science can have on society, cultivating her love of margaritas, and developing her very thick skin.
